Community-wide initiative invites central Iowans to volunteer, serve, and strengthen local communities

United Way of Central Iowa is launching Month of Impact, a new volunteer initiative designed to connect individuals, workplace teams, nonprofit organizations, and community partners through service opportunities across central Iowa. Taking place from Aug. 5 through Sept. 15, the initiative aims to increase volunteer engagement, support local nonprofits, and inspire community-wide action.

Throughout the campaign, participants can choose from a variety of volunteer opportunities that align with their interests, skills, and schedules. Opportunities are available for individuals, families, workplace teams, and community groups, making it easy for anyone to get involved.

"Month of Impact is about bringing our community together to create meaningful change," said Joy Talmon, Volunteer Engagement Officer at United Way of Central Iowa. "Every volunteer hour strengthens our community and helps local organizations continue their important work. Whether someone serves for a single day or throughout the initiative, every act of service matters."

By connecting volunteers with nonprofit organizations addressing critical community needs, Month of Impact helps transform individual acts of service into collective impact. The initiative also creates new opportunities for businesses and community partners to engage employees, support local causes, and strengthen connections within the community.

The initiative begins with Backpack Builders, United Way of Central Iowa's annual volunteer effort supporting local students, and continues with volunteer opportunities across the region before culminating with Day of Action on Sept. 15. Day of Action brings volunteers together in support of nonprofit organizations and community projects across central Iowa.
