Day of Action Unites Hundreds of Volunteers for Community Impact in Central Iowa

Volunteer

More than 675 volunteers came together across central Iowa for our annual Day of Action, completing 67 hands-on service projects in partnership with 20 local nonprofit organizations. See volunteers in action.

As the largest single-day volunteer event in the region, Day of Action brings together businesses, community groups, and individual volunteers to address local needs through service. This year's event was also a featured part of our inaugural Month of Impact, a community-wide initiative designed to connect more people with meaningful opportunities to give back and make a difference.

“For more than 30 years, Day of Action has demonstrated what's possible when people come together with a shared commitment to their community," said Mary Sellers, President of United Way of Central Iowa. “This year's event was especially meaningful as part of our first-ever Month of Impact, which expanded opportunities for individuals and organizations across central Iowa to make a difference through service.”

Throughout the day, volunteers supported nonprofit partners in a variety of ways, from reading with students and organizing learning materials to improving nonprofit facilities and revitalizing outdoor spaces. These projects helped strengthen organizations working to address some of central Iowa's most pressing challenges and advanced our UNITED to THRIVE vision, which focuses on creating opportunities for all central Iowans to thrive.

Together, volunteers generated an estimated $64,932 in community impact, helping nonprofit organizations complete projects that may otherwise require significant staff time, funding, or additional resources.

“Day of Action is an example of how volunteerism can create both immediate and lasting impact," said Joy Talmon, Volunteer Engagement Officer at United Way of Central Iowa. “In a single day, volunteers helped nonprofit partners accomplish important projects while building stronger connections to the organizations and causes that make our community stronger."

Day of Action is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. The event's success reflects the commitment of volunteers, businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations across our region who are dedicated to strengthening our community. By investing their time and talents, they helped create meaningful change and build a stronger future for central Iowa.

While Day of Action takes place once a year, opportunities to get involved are available year-round. Visit our volunteer page to explore ways to use your time and talents to support local nonprofits and make a lasting impact in our community.
