United Way of Central Iowa SMS Donor Messaging Program

These SMS Terms of Service govern the use of text messaging services provided by United Way of Central Iowa (“UWCI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By opting into SMS messages from UWCI, you agree to these terms.

Program Description

United Way of Central Iowa offers an SMS messaging program to provide subscribers with information such as:

  • Event reminders and updates
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Campaign or community impact updates
  • Donation or fundraising reminders
  • Alerts related to United Way initiatives and programs

Message frequency may vary depending on your engagement with UWCI programs and events.

User Opt-In

By providing your mobile phone number and opting into UWCI text messages through our website, event registration, volunteer forms, or other sign-up methods, you consent to receive SMS messages from United Way of Central Iowa.

Your consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase or donation.

Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and service plan. United Way of Central Iowa is not responsible for any charges incurred from your mobile service provider.

Opt-Out Instructions

You may opt out of the SMS messaging program at any time.

To stop receiving messages, reply:

STOP

After sending STOP, you may receive a confirmation text message confirming that you have been unsubscribed.

Privacy

We do not sell or share mobile phone numbers with third parties for marketing purposes.

Supported Carriers

Our SMS program is supported by most major U.S. mobile carriers. However, message delivery is not guaranteed and may be affected by factors outside of UWCI’s control, including carrier network availability.

United Way of Central Iowa and participating mobile carriers are not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to participate in the UWCI SMS messaging program. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Changes to Terms

United Way of Central Iowa may update or modify these SMS Terms of Service at any time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.

Your continued participation in the SMS messaging program constitutes acceptance of those changes.

Lantern and other programs

United Way of Central Iowa is a sponsor of the Lantern (formerly Bright by Text) SMS program and does not in any way own or manage that program. All users of the Lantern system are governed by the Lantern Terms and Conditions.

Employee SMS Messaging Program

1- SMS Consent Communication:
Information (Phone Numbers) obtained as part of the SMS consent process will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

2- Types of SMS Communications:
If consent has been given to receive text messages from United Way of Central Iowa, messages may be received related to the following:
- Notify our employees of adverse weather

- Office closures

- Urgent notifications.

3- Message Frequency:
Message frequency may vary depending on the type of communication. For example, you may receive up to 5 SMS messages per week related to employee notifications.

4- Potential Fees for SMS Messaging:
Standard message and data rates may apply, depending on the carrier's pricing plan. These fees may vary if the message is sent domestically or internationally.

5- Opt-In Method:
Opt-in to receive SMS messages from United Way of Central Iowa can be done in the following ways

- We ask them verbally: We get consent verbally by asking "Do you agree to receive conversations (between employees) text messages from United Way of Central Iowa. Reply STOP to opt-out; Reply HELP for support; Message & data rates may apply; Messaging frequency may vary. Visit https://www.unitedwaydm.org/policies/privacy to see our privacy policy and https://www.unitedwaydm.org/policies/sms-tos for our Terms of Service."

6- Opt-Out Method:
Opting out of receiving SMS messages can be done at any time by replying "STOP" to any SMS message received. Alternatively, direct contact can be made to request removal from the messaging list.

7- Help:
For any issues, reply with the keyword HELP. Alternatively, help can be obtained directly from us at https://www.unitedwaydm.org/about/contact-us.
Additional Options:
If SMS messages are not desired, the SMS consent box on forms can be left unchecked.
