Benjy Klostermann believes that strong communities are built when people choose to invest in one another.
As the 2026 Tocqueville Society Campaign Chair, Benjy brings a passion for philanthropy, community engagement, and creating opportunities for young people to succeed. A member of both the Tocqueville Society and Education Leadership Initiative (ELI), he has experienced firsthand how United Way of Central Iowa connects donors with meaningful opportunities to make a lasting difference.
Benjy's connection to United Way began with a workplace campaign contribution. Like many donors, he started by giving what he could, trusting that his gift would help those who needed it most. Over time, his involvement grew as he learned more about the organizations, programs, and lives being impacted through United Way's work. What began as a donation evolved into a deeper commitment to community leadership and advocacy.
Education and the network of support surrounding students have always been especially meaningful to Benjy. Through his involvement with ELI, he has seen the importance of investing in organizations that provide mentoring, career and college exploration, emotional support, and creative opportunities for young people across central Iowa. He believes these experiences help shape brighter futures and strengthen the entire community.
Beyond the impact on local nonprofits and families, Benjy says his involvement with United Way has also been transformative on a personal level. Through ELI and the Tocqueville Society, he has built relationships with passionate community leaders from a variety of industries while developing skills that have helped him grow both personally and professionally.
As Campaign Chair, Benjy hopes to inspire others to take the next step in their own philanthropic journey. His message to fellow Tocqueville members and prospective donors is simple: get involved. Whether through volunteering, attending events, serving on a committee, or learning more about the organizations supported by United Way, deeper engagement creates a stronger connection to the work and its impact.
United Way of Central Iowa has earned Benjy's confidence through its ability to thoughtfully steward donor investments and direct resources where they are needed most. That trust, combined with the relationships he has built through the organization, continues to fuel his commitment to giving back.
As he leads the 2026 campaign, Benjy is excited to work alongside fellow Tocqueville members to advance United Way's mission and strengthen central Iowa for generations to come.
