Empowering Central Iowa Through CIRCA and HealthWorks
Supporting Central Iowans Through Education & Employment Opportunities
United Way of Central Iowa has proudly provided services and support for those re-entering our community after incarceration and to individuals seeking education and employment, particularly in the healthcare sector. Through two impactful programs, CIRCA and HealthWorks, we’ve helped address workforce challenges and create brighter futures for central Iowans.
Our Commitment to Transition and Future Success
We are confident that both CIRCA and HealthWorks will thrive under new leadership. United Way of Central Iowa is committed to supporting these programs during the transition by:
- Identifying and applying for future funding opportunities.
- Sharing tools, resources, and expertise developed over the years.
We are proud of the impact these programs have made and look forward to seeing their continued success in empowering individuals and strengthening our community.
CIRCA:
Supporting Re-Entry and Career Readiness
CIRCA (Central Iowa Returning Citizens Achieve) has successfully supported individuals re-entering our community after incarceration by providing training, resources, and career opportunities. As a federally funded, proof-of-concept program through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Pathway Home 2 grant, CIRCA is set to continue its mission of empowering returning citizens to re-enter the workforce. This program is now available for a new partner that is well-positioned to sustain and grow its valuable services. United Way of Central Iowa remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continued success.
HealthWorks:
Building Iowa’s Healthcare Workforce
Since its launch in 2016, HealthWorks has been a vital initiative addressing the critical shortage of skilled healthcare professionals in our community. Through partnerships with healthcare organizations, the program has provided training, case management, and support services to help individuals secure entry-level roles in the healthcare sector. Grounded in best practices, HealthWorks has proven its ability to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of Iowa’s healthcare workforce.
As United Way of Central Iowa works to transition HealthWorks to a qualified organization that can sustain its impact, the program remains focused on its mission. HealthWorks is currently recruiting participants and offers certificate programs in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomy, and Community Health Worker. Meanwhile, students expected to graduate in Spring 2025 are on track to earn credentials as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Registered Nurses (RN), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees, as well as bachelor’s degrees in Healthcare Administration and Human Services.
