Summer Meal Meet-Ups
Free Summer Meals for Kids: Nourishing Youth Throughout Central Iowa
The Summer Meal Meet-Ups program offers free, nutritious meals to children 18 and under at various meal sites across Iowa. With more than 40,000 students in central Iowa eligible for free or reduced-price meals, it’s important to ensure every child has access to food during the summer. However, only about 3,000 children currently take advantage of these free meals.
Meal sites are hosted by approved organizations such as schools and parks, and they offer not only meals but also activities and educational opportunities. No registration is required to participate, and meals must be consumed on-site due to recent federal changes.
To find a meal site near you, click below, call 211, or text “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304.
Summer Meal Meet-Ups: A Vital Component of OpportUNITY’s Fight Against Poverty
Summer Meal Meet-Ups is a key initiative within United Way of Central Iowa’s OpportUNITY program, which unites the community to tackle poverty and its barriers.
OpportUNITY raises awareness about the challenges preventing central Iowans from living a thriving life and engages individuals in efforts to reduce poverty through advocacy, education, and focused work groups.
By offering free meals to children, Summer Meal Meet-Ups ensures that kids have the nourishment they need to succeed and thrive in our community.
