Help 8th Graders Feel Confident About Starting High School 

Join fellow volunteers like you who are passionate about central Iowa's middle and high school students staying on a path to graduation and gaining essential building blocks for a better life. By volunteering, you can make a difference in the life of one or two of these middle schoolers. During your time together, you’ll be helping them prepare for high school and provide them the confidence they need for their exciting new journey.

Plan Your Route is an event at North High School. Similar in some ways to a college visit, students are invited to attend with their parents/guardians to speak with North High School staff, community volunteers, and skilled-trades professionals to help them plan their path forward to graduation and beyond.

Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

 

Please be sure to have your state ID upon volunteer arrival.

 

Event Timeline:

8:30 - 9 a.m.: Set -Up
9 - 10 a.m.: Volunteer Orientation – required for all volunteers
10 a.m. - Noon: Event
Noon - 12:30 p.m.: Tear-Down   

Ways to help include:

• Floater: Help wherever needed
• Tour Guide: Walk attendees and families around North High School, utilizing script and map provided – At least 10 volunteers needed
• Break-Out Room Support Team Member: These sessions will be led by North staff. Sharing information on what it looks like to be a student at North High School, such as how credits work, ways to get involved, accessing Infinite Campus (as a student or guardian), and more. – At least 10 volunteers needed.

Please indicate in the sign-up below if you’re willing to help with set-up or tear-down. We will need 5-6 people to help before and after the event. This will include arranging chairs and tables, posting signage, ensuring rooms are clean, and other activities as needed.
