Be a part of a community effort to respond, rebuild, and recover central Iowa. Together, we will Emerge United!

What is the Emerge United Fund?

The COVID-19 pandemic, the racial justice movement and other social social issues have brought some new and tough challenges to our community.

But with United Way’s unparalleled power to convene partners, providers, and resources, we know that – together – we will be able to tackle these challenges at their roots. United Way was built for this. And so was the new Emerge United Fund.

United Way of Central Iowa is excited to offer Emerge United to our community as an opportunity to invest in addressing systemic equity issues and supporting the emerging and rapidly changing needs of health and human services organizations, schools, job training programs, and – ultimately – the individuals and families they serve.

How do I donate to the Emerge United Fund?

You have the flexibility to make your Emerge United donation through your workplace campaign or online. With no minimum and no administration fee, feel confident that every dollar invested is going back into our community to address systemic equity issues and support the emerging and rapidly changing needs of individuals and families in central Iowa.

As the Emerge United funds address urgent and current needs, your contribution will be invested more rapidly than other designation options.

Where does my donation to the Emerge United Fund go?

Emerge United funds will be used efficiently and effectively in collaboration with health and human services organizations, schools, job training programs, and other partners who are responding to critical needs in Dallas, Polk, and Warren counties, and – ultimately – the individuals and families they serve. Making a donation to the Emerge United Fund is an investment in addressing and supporting the emerging and rapidly changing needs of these partners, including disruption to normal service delivery, adapting services to meet specific needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, meeting an increased demand for services, or a combination of these circumstances.

Why should I choose to designate my donation to Emerge United?

United Way of Central Iowa is collaborating with nonprofit organizations to continually monitor and assess the changing needs of our community in response to the global pandemic and social movements like Black Lives Matter. According to data available prior to COVID-19, nearly one-third of central Iowans struggle to meet their basic needs, and now those same individuals and families are disproportionately being impacted. Before the pandemic, equity gaps existed in safe housing, nutritious food, legal services, and other essential needs. Our organization is committed to using these funds and other donations to fight systemic equity issues in our community.

With an unprecedented unemployment rate, your donation could support your neighbors, family, or friends who now find themselves in need of these critical services from an already-strained nonprofit system.
