More than 575 volunteers united to support 20 local organizations, completing nearly 50 impactful projects across the community.

This incredible initiative was part of United Way of Central Iowa’s Day of Action, the region's largest day of volunteer service. Thanks to the commitment of our corporate and nonprofit partners, along with the hard work of our volunteers, we came together to further our mission—strengthening lives by uniting the caring power of our community.

“Day of Action has been a cornerstone initiative for over 30 years. This day not only gives volunteers a firsthand look at the challenges facing our community, but it also empowers our corporate partners to actively engage their employees in making a difference. Most importantly, it provides critical support to our nonprofit partners and local schools.”

Day of Action Highlights
On Day of Action, United Way of Central Iowa's nonprofit partners team up with corporate and community volunteers to accomplish projects both big and small. Throughout this one day, volunteers successfully completed over 45 projects ranging from reading with third graders to cleaning and beautifying community safe spaces. With projects for groups of different sizes, interests, and skill sets, volunteers can select a project and a United Way partner that complements their team and their goals. Volunteers go home knowing they made a difference in the lives of their neighbors in need.

The collective volunteer hours amounted to an estimated $51,000 in economic impact for the local nonprofits and schools that participated this year. All the efforts aligned with United Way’s UNITED to THRIVE strategies, which focus on building a stronger, healthier community.

“Volunteering offers a direct way to make an immediate impact in our community. The support provided by volunteers helps nonprofits and schools extend their services and resources to those in need. Our hope is that Day of Action inspires volunteers to continue giving their time throughout the year.”
