In one Saturday morning, you can help a young person make the most important decision of his or her life: to graduate from high school.

The eighth annual Graduation Walk is Saturday, August 27, 9:00 a.m. to noon. United Way of Central Iowa, Des Moines Public Schools and corporate sponsor Wells Fargo are recruiting 200 community volunteers.

As a Graduation Walk volunteer, you'll be paired with a Des Moines Public Schools staff member to visit the homes of students at risk of dropping out of school. You’ll connect personally with the student and their family, share powerful information about career outcomes for dropouts and help return them to the path that leads toward graduation.

The 2016 Graduation Walk is expanding to focus not only on high schoolers behind on credits, but high school and middle school students with high rates of absenteeism or who are struggling academically.

In the first seven Graduation Walk events, volunteers have visited more than 4,000 students to engage them with school. In this year alone, we will reach around 2,000—encouraging changes that could improve their life’s trajectory.

Please click on the link below and register by AUGUST 17! It will be the most rewarding morning of your year.
