What is the Foster Grandparent Program?
The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) offers individuals 60 years of age and older an opportunity to devote their volunteer service to infants, toddlers and children.
The grandparents engage youth and serve the community through reading and mentoring. This program is more than 60 grandparents strong and is making a difference in the lives of more than 500 children in central Iowa each year.
What are the benefits of the Foster Grandparent Program?
The Foster Grandparent Program provides volunteers with the following benefits:
- Modest, tax-free stipend
- Accident and liability insurance while on duty
- Annual physical
- Noon meal
- Transportation
- Sick and vacation time
- Monthly training meetings
- Paid holidays
- Annual volunteer recognition
- Serve children directly
