2012 Pacesetters

Six Pacesetter companies have staked United Way of Central Iowa’s 2012 campaign to a strong start, pledging a total of $2,388,460, a 7 percent increase over their 2011 results.

The six organizations are: Aviva USA; Casey’s General Store, Inc.; Dardis Communications; FBL Financial Group, Inc.; Praxair Distribution, Inc.; and United Way of Central Iowa.
FBL Financial Group posted a 12.6 percent increase over their 2011 result, and Aviva USA surpassed $1.5 million for the first time in their 2012 campaign.
Pacesetters are companies that complete their United Way workplace campaign by mid-September with goals for increased participation and giving. This year’s Pacesetter campaign was co-chaired by Jim Brannen, CEO of FBL Financial, and Maria Volante, senior vice president with Dardis Communications.
“The Pacesetter organizations seized the opportunity to help set the standard for leadership and inspire other businesses across central Iowa to build momentum for successful United Way campaigns,” Brannen says.
“Central Iowa is one of the most generous communities in the country,” Volante adds. “We owe our thanks to all this year’s Pacesetters for their generosity and commitment. They set the bar high and give all of us confidence for reaching our campaign goal. It means so much to our community.”
“I’m always very proud of the amazing way FBL employees engage in the communities we serve,” says Brannen. “But this year, I am especially honored to lead an organization that rose to the challenge, took our commitment to heart, and exceeded our United Way goals, helping us set the pace for the community. It’s inspiring to see the results of working together to create lasting change.”
The 2012 United Way of Central Iowa campaign seeks to raise a record $26.5 million to improve community conditions in education, income and health. In 2011, United Way invested a record $23.5 toward these priorities.
