Meredith Corporation presented SPIRIT OF CENTRAL IOWA recognition

United Way honors 10 organizations and individuals with
GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER recognitions.
 
DES MOINES — For exemplifying the true spirit of what it means to LIVE UNITED, Meredith Corporation captured this year’s prestigious Spirit of Central Iowa recognition at the April 23 United Way of Central Iowa LIVE UNITED recognition event.
 
United Way of Central Iowa annually presents the Spirit of Central Iowa recognition to a single company or organization that improves community conditions in education, income and health through United Way’s strategies of Give, Advocate and Volunteer.
 
Meredith was selected by a panel of volunteer judges, who commented on their company-wide commitment to philanthropy, advocacy and volunteer service as core business principles.

United Way of Central Iowa also honored 10 organizations and individuals with LIVE UNITED recognitions, in the categories of GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER.

Shane Schulte, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
As president of the Hubbell School Parent-Teacher Association, Schulte leads the advocacy efforts of parents, community leaders, business leaders and teachers. He is an active member of the Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee, working with the Des Moines school board and district leaders to recommend budget priorities in a time of tough budget constraints. As the Iowa PTA’s Legislative Committee chair, he consulted with Iowa Education Director Jason Glass on the education reform blueprint, and organized a parent advocacy day at the state capitol.

Jill Thompson Hansen, West Bank.
Hansen serves  as a board member for two nonprofit organizations; a school board member; a pro-bono volunteer attorney;  a high school booster club volunteer;a fundraiser for the WestBank Foundation, Children and Families of Iowa and United Way;and as a committee member for United Way Women’s Leadership Connection where she works to improve the quality of early learning centers for children in central Iowa’s lowest-income neighborhoods.
 
In the past year alone, she volunteered over 500 volunteer hours, always leading with integrity, respect and a concern for people in our community.
