55+ Volunteer Opportunity

04/15/2011

Spring is finally here!  You can store your shovel and turn your thoughts to spring cleaning and maintenance your home might require. Perhaps you've noticed that even the simplest repairs require money and skills you may not have.  This is especially true for seniors living on a limited income, individuals with disabilities and parents trying to keep up with the expense of raising a family. Many households have to choose between vital necessities like food or medicine or basic home maintenance like a watertight roof or safe railings.

The 55+ Initiative of United Way is teaming up with Rebuilding Together Greater Des Moines for their annual Rebuilding Day on Saturday, May 7 from 8 am - 4 pm.  With the help of hundreds of volunteers across the city, we will help Rebuilding Together renovate 40+ homes for low-income homeowners in just one day. Some volunteers will paint or rake or organize.  Others will share a skilled trade like plumbing or electrical work.

Whatever your interests and skills, we have a job for you! Please click here if you are interested, or contact Kris today at 515-246-6544 or kzimmerman@unitedwaydm.org to join our Rebuilding team.  Volunteers will receive lunch, a t-shirt, and the satisfaction that comes with helping others!
