United Way of Central Iowa encourages Iowans to start the New Year off right by participating in Live Healthy Iowa’s 100 Day Wellness Challenge.
The 100 Day Wellness Challenge is a simple and affordable program helping Iowans to implement healthy lifestyle changes. From January 20 through April 29, 2011, teams of two-to-ten people are urged to increase their activity levels and make better dietary and lifestyle choices to improve their overall health. Teams participating in the friendly competition use Live Healthy Iowa’s website to log their activity minutes and/or pounds lost, and track their standing against other teams in the state.
The cost is $20.00 per person and includes a Live Healthy Iowa T-shirt, one-year magazine subscription, weekly motivational emails, training tips and healthy recipes. Participants are granted access to Live Healthy Iowa’s website featuring a personal tracking page, daily journal, workout routines and wellness information. As an added incentive, everyone is eligible to win prizes including a bicycle, gift card, or a Caribbean cruise for two sponsored by Travel and Transport Vacations!
Companies, community organizations, families and schools are encouraged to form teams and tackle the 100 Day Wellness Challenge. It is a great way to get moving and shed some holiday weight. Since 2002, Live Healthy Iowa has helped more than 169,000 participants lose 696,972 pounds and log more than 27 million miles of activity.
“United Way has a goal for our community: By 2020, to cut by half the number of adults and children who engage in unhealthy or risky behaviors. Live Healthy Iowa is a great program for helping central Iowans make healthier decisions and move us closer to that goal,” says Nicole Beaman, United Way director of health.
Online registration begins December 15, 2010. Gather a team and sign-up now at www.livehealthyiowa.org.
